These young women are POWER-FUL

GIRL POWER is committed to advocating on the issues that are most significant to them by identifying, leading and promoting through community engagement. Focused on Race Relations, Bullying Prevention, Civic Engagement and Mental Health, GIRL POWER is comprised of high school and college aged young women.

Introduced by the WDSC at our April Monthly Meeting as a GIRL POWER Panel, these four young women have already begun to be recognized for their talents. Speaking at the Sacramento County African American Coalition Youth Rally, guests of the California Center’s annual fundraiser and registered for the Women in Politics summer seminar, these young women have also received an invitation to be the guests of Senator Dr. Pan at the Capitol.

It's a New Day at WDSC

I want to thank the Women Democrats of Sacramento County for the honor of serving as President for the last 2 years.  During that time, I grew personally and professionally, pushing through fears and anxiety.  The WDSC is an organization that practices what they preach.  Whether it be staffing tables at environmental festivals or county fairs, or showing up at Memorial Auditorium to register new citizens to vote, or participate in the Women's March, WDSC members share their time, energy and resources with the community in order to improve lives and advocate for families.
There is a new president this year - Tracie Stafford.  She will be capably leading the WDSC through this time of increased energy and determined activism.  I am grateful to serve as Treasurer and learn about the nuances of political finance during 2017 as well as contributing as an executive board member.
The WDSC is like no other club.  The energy is strong, enduring, mature and thoughtful.  We debate and carefully consider each endorsed candidate and ballot measure.  We bring in local and national leaders who update the group on the issues of the day.  We show up and volunteer for the causes we believe in.  We are mindful of being inclusive and seek to diversify and grow our membership.
Thank you WDSC, for the opportunity of a lifetime and allowing me to be a part of your history.
-Kate Van Buren
